>> WHAT IS IT?? <<

Bonny Doon Church organizes an annual work day that serves families in Bonny Doon who lost their homes in the CZU Lightening Complex fires. The recipients are typically under-insured, widows, single parents, battling health challenges or just need a little encouragement along the way. Nearly five years post fires, we are still helping people in their journey back home. Join us in spreading a little love to Bonny Doon!

We are immensely grateful to Westgate Church of Beautiful Day, Vintage Faith, Twin Lakes and Santa Cruz Convergence for their help recruiting volunteers for these epic workday.

Check out some before and afters of our previous events below!

>> WAYS TO HELP <<

>> VOLUNTEER <<

Volunteers will check-in and sign waivers at Bonny Doon Church from 8-8:30am giving volunteers time to grab a light breakfast provided by the church and drive to the worksite by 9am. People will receive a map to the site location where they will be volunteering.

Volunteer opportunities include assisting at check in, building garden beds or picnic tables, painting, yard work such as trimming branches or raking as well as heavier yard work if you have skills with chainsaws or tractors. Skilled tradesmen from construction, electrical and more are always needed! Please register below so we can best match you with a site in need.

>> DONATE MONEY <<

Funding to finance this event come from the funds Bonny Doon Church raises for fire survivors through their local craft fair and personal donations.

We need your support to continue helping fire survivors! Please consider making a financial contribution to help our community recover.

& how we can best HELP!

Bonny Doon Church has been actively assisting CZU fire survivors from the point that we were allowed to repopulate after the fires. We worked with FEMA to bring Red Cross and other agencies to Bonny Doon coordinating with our local elementary schools, churches, resturants, local businesses and more to help folks get back home. We have been regularly attending the Santa Cruz Long Term Recovery meetings and networkings with other local agencies to dove tail everyone’s stregnths in supporting our community. We are happy to share information with our neighbors or jump on a call to help you with any questions or concerns you have in your process.

WHO DO WE HELP?

OUR THREE 2026 RECIPIENTS:

1— Young couple who moved in 2 months before the fire only to loose everything. Since the fire they have had two children and are currently living on their property in an RV while they work to get their home rebuilt. We will be assisting them in purchase and planting of 10 redwood trees for private and future shade along with building them a pergola for summer shade.

2— A couple in their 70’s who are finally moving home! We will assist with moving boxes, building furniture, cleaning up house, yard and installing garden beds and a fence. The wife is the husband’s full time caretaker who is losing his vision and currently in a wheelchair.

3— A widow who was total loss has finally moved home can use our help with yardwork from pruning to help stacking a rock wall and building a small platform deck.

4— A single elderly lady who has suffered a stroke needs some extra yard care as she struggles to maintain her place post fire. While her home survived, the fire came very close and she’s still processing burned trees in addition to annual yard maintenance. Ocean view property from this lot makes for a nice lunch break.

5— Bonny Doon Church is always in need but often last on our list. Given it’s the hub that keeps this event going in addition to hosting our community weekly for coffee, grey bear donations and free wi-fi, we’d love some extra hands on site to pull invasive acacia and broom.
